Weekend with Gordon Harrison: An Artistic Retreat to Remember

Art has a unique way of touching our souls, and everyone has their favorites. One artist who has captured my heart is Gordon Harrison. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to join a weekend retreat with him at the BENZ Gallery in London, Ontario.

The experience of seeing Gordon’s paintings up close was nothing short of mesmerizing. His use of color is breathtaking, and the varnish he applies gives each piece the perfect sheen, adding depth and brilliance that photos simply can't capture.

The retreat included five other artists and myself, and we had the privilege of watching Gordon create an original painting from start to finish. Witnessing his creative process was inspiring, and it set the tone for our own artistic journey over the weekend.

Under Gordon’s guidance, we started by sketching our photos onto canvases and painting them with black Indian ink. Then, we moved on to mixing our palettes, preparing for two days immersed in oil painting. Each brushstroke was a learning experience, filled with the vibrant energy that Gordon’s art embodies.

I’ve included some before and after photos from the retreat for you to enjoy. If any of my pieces catch your eye, they are available for purchase. This weekend was a transformative experience, deepening my appreciation for the art of painting and the magic that happens when creativity flows freely.

Join me in celebrating the beauty of art and the joy of creation!
